Dear Pool Owner
It hasn't been an easy first month of the year for the average consumer but the good news is that we are back in full swing, and while loadshedding is getting to us too, we have adapted, adjusted, looked ahead and planned cautiously, making changes where needed to ensure the continued, seamless production of our pool covers and solid customer service. It's hard to not let the constant planning get you down and probably the most used app ever - EskomSePush - will continue to dictate daily life for some time to come, but at PowerPlastics Pool Covers we are busy and focused on being part of the solution, not the problem. And we'd like you to be too, with pool covers!
In Johannesburg, the double whammy has been the water restrictions. It has been a city of contrasts in recent weeks - abundant rain, everything green yet limited water in the taps. But it is not only about the water and old or broken infrastructure. A lot of it links backs to the electricity crisis. Like substations, the constant on-and-off rolling blackouts put stress on the system and result in losses, and Rand Water’s system may take a minimum of four hours to recover after an outage. So the water may be there and dams at 100% but there is no way to pump from them.
In the last day or two, as power cuts knocked out yet more of the supply, mobile tankers have been seen delivering water. Stores are low on bottled water and some schools have closed. The recent heatwave and rampant power cuts have wreaked havoc leaving a growing list of areas, including Mamelodi, Atteridgeville, Mooikloof, Centurion, and Mabopane, without water for four days straight. The two reservoirs in Hurstville are critically low while the other systems in Parktown, Honeydew, Helderkruin, Linden, Brixton and Horison are low but stable. The highest water users are Joburg South and Central, Midrand, Sandton, Hamburg and Randburg, Helderkruin, Honeydew and Parktown, all under Level 1 water restrictions.
The role of pool covers in all this? It's two-fold. Firstly, covered pools are cleaner and need less filtration. Secondly, a pool cover stops all evaporation. Hot summer days will see your pool levels drop hour by hour. And if your household is not managing with the daily water limits, you have a pool and its cleaner water as a backup plan, like your own mini reservoir. Read on for more on the incredible GeoBubble range and see why pool covers make so much sense in South Africa right now.
